BBQ FAQ
Do pellet smokers need electricity?
Yes — Green Mountain Grills pellet smokers use an electric auger and controller to feed pellets and regulate temperature automatically, so they need a power source nearby, unlike a basic charcoal BBQ. The smoke flavour itself still comes entirely from burning real wood pellets, not electricity.
What's the difference between a charcoal BBQ and a pellet smoker?
A charcoal BBQ burns charcoal directly under or near your food, giving you direct heat and classic smoky flavour, but it needs hands-on management throughout cooking. A pellet smoker burns wood pellets in a separate hopper, feeding them automatically to maintain a set temperature for hours, producing authentic hardwood smoke with far less manual attention — better suited to slow, low-temperature cooking like brisket or pulled pork.
What can I cook on a flat top grill that I can't on a regular BBQ?
A flat top grill's solid surface is ideal for foods that would fall through a normal BBQ grate — smaller vegetables, shellfish, eggs, pancakes, and thinly sliced ingredients like stir-fry style cooking. You also get more even heat distribution across the whole surface, which suits delicate items like fish that can otherwise stick or break apart on an open grate.
Can a BonFeu BonBiza be used as both a fire pit and a grill?
Yes — the BonBiza range is built specifically as a dual-purpose product, working as a genuine fire pit for warmth and ambience, with a plancha grill surface for cooking. It's a good option if you want one product that handles both jobs rather than buying a separate fire pit and grill.
